The Oder is a river rising in the Czech Republic and emptying into the Baltic sea. On its way it forms almost 200 kilometres of the border between Poland and Germany. Thus it’s not only a stream, it’s history. Talking to people living close to the river Misselwitz explores ideas of home and belonging as well as memory and place. Instead of pressing her protagonists into preshaped notions of life in a border region, Misselwitz confronts us with contradictions and a defining diversity which describes how people always exceed history.
