Runaway follows the stories of five young girls who arrive at a refuge in Tehran, having run away from home and their abusive or neglectful families. By leaving their homes, these incredibly courageous and resourceful girls are trying to turn a new page in their lives. The film explores their experience of male authority, their longing for respect and freedom, and their hopes for a brighter future. But what are their chances? As an official institution in Iranian society, this Centre also has to play according to the rules. Nevertheless, Mrs Shirazi, who runs the place, always finds a way to renegotiate the relationships between the parents and the runaways.
