The School of Arts introduces itself within the programme First Crossings with a selection of student short documentary and fiction films. Their production has been marked by a period of restrictions that affected also educational institutions. Because of this, some of these works have been created for a longer time (BA graduate fiction film Vida, Pietro Cromaz), others have been shaped despite isolation. We present some films from the documentary workshop held by Ludovica Fales and Tomas Sheridan; they have been shot by groups of students together, though each from their home, located from Portugal to Ukraine and connected through their computer screens.
The film programme is complemented by the intuitively performative work by Abiral Khadka, a student from the New Media MA course. In his “Spaces for reflection” he metaphorically represents the situation in which people from different parts of the world, through shared visual impulses, reflect on a common idea and weave mutual affinities. After the performance, the work will remain at the festival as an installation.
L’Accademia delle Belle Arti si presenta nella sezione Primi Voli con una selezione di cortometraggi creati dagli studenti – sia documentari sia di finzione – che riflettono, nella produzione, il periodo di restrizioni in vigore anche nel mondo dell’istruzione. La creazione di alcuni tra questi lavori, perciò, si è protratta a lungo (il fiction film di laurea Vida, Pietro Cromaz), mentre altri sono stati ultimati nonostante l’isolamento. Presentiamo così alcuni film del laboratorio sul documentario, guidato da Ludovica Fales e Tomas Sheridan, che gli studenti e le studentesse hanno girato assieme, seppure ognuno dalla propria abitazione, sparsi tra il Portogallo e l’Ucraina, collegati dallo schermo dei pc.
L’opera di Abiral riassume il nostro pensiero circa l’organizzazione del festival di quest’anno, infatti, almeno negli ultimi due anni, se non prima, ci siamo trovati a interagire ininterrottamente con una moltitudine di realtà e nuovi spazi – mediatici, personali-abitativi, computerizzati. Siamo scesi nella profondità dei nostri spazi interiori e (forse proprio per questo) abbiamo ricercato nuovi contatti, avvicinamenti, legami. Con il mondo esterno, con la natura e i boschi.
Abiral’s work condenses our thoughts about working on this year’s festival; in fact, if not earlier, in the past two years we have continuously had to interface with a variety of realities and their spaces – media spaces, personal and living spaces, computerized spaces. We have also submerged in our inner spaces and (maybe as a consequence) searched for contact, proximity, connections. With the outer world, with nature and woods.
